Toolbox Talks

You can call or text 988

Mental health 5 min

Need help now? Call or text 988. If someone is in danger, call 911.

Why it matters

If you are struggling, you do not have to carry it alone. Call or text 988 any time. If you might hurt yourself now, or someone else is in danger now, call 911. Asking for a break does not make you weak. This crew would rather lose an hour of work than lose a person.

The talk

This part is for you, if the week has been too much. Maybe you are not sleeping. Maybe you feel like a burden. Maybe you do not want to be here. Hear it in plain words. You are not weak for feeling it, and you are not the only person on a job who has felt it. Help is 988. Call or text. Any time, day or night. You do not need the right words lined up. You do not need to explain your whole life. You can say that you are having a hard time and you want to talk. Someone will answer. That call is allowed on this crew.

If you might hurt yourself now, call 911. If someone else is in danger now, call 911. Do not wait for a better moment. Do not wait until you are off the clock. That call is the right call. If you are not in danger this minute but you cannot keep going like this, 988 is there, and so is a break. Tell the foreman you need a break if you can get the words out. You do not have to tell the whole crew your business. You can say you need to step away. Using leave, or asking for help, does not make you weak. It is how a person makes room to come back.

This crew would rather lose an hour of work than lose a person. An hour is nothing next to you. You are not letting people down by stopping. If a partner asks if you are okay, you can tell the truth. If you do not want to talk to them, you can still call 988 on your own. If you are scared of what you might do, you do not have to sit with that alone. Call 911 if the danger is now. Stay where people can see you while help is coming, if you can. The job will still be here tomorrow. We want you here too.
